TRUMP'S LIES, ISRAEL'S TROUBLE
Trump claims that Yemen's Ansarullah movement has capitulated, announcing that it "does not want to fight anymore". In response, the United States will no longer continue its bombing campaign against Yemen and the decision to stop the attacks is "effective immediately".
In reality, Yemeni forces have never said anything like that. If anything, the opposite. The point is that Ansarullah began the campaign against ships in the Red Sea to block the flow of goods to Israel, following the bombing campaign against Gaza. To defend Israel, the US (and some European countries) began attacking Yemen, which responded by attacking the Western fleet. Months of Anglo-American bombing have not succeeded in bending the Yemenis, nor in reducing their fighting capacity. On the contrary, Western forces have consumed large quantities of bombs, missiles and ammunition, practically without success.
So what Trump is doing is: telling the Americans a lie (the Yemenis have capitulated) so that he can say that the US is stopping attacking Yemen because they have surrendered; obviously, at this point Ansarullah will stop attacking American ships (just as they would stop attacking Israel, if it stopped the war in Gaza). The final result will therefore be the same, only that Trump has inverted the order of the cause and effect factors, trying to pass off a defeat as its opposite [1].
But, beyond the Trumpian nonsense, with which he tries to fool the Americans, the interesting aspect of the question is another.
If the US really intends to put an end to the campaign against Yemen (the doubt is legitimate, given that Trump changes his mind with the same ease with which a weather vane changes direction based on the wind), this effectively means that from now on the problem will be solely and exclusively the Israelis' - who will thus find themselves with a fifth active front.
Even the choice of timing is no less significant. The insistence on finding a diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue with Iran (negotiations resume next Sunday), and the dismissal of Waltz (a pro-Israeli and fiercely anti-Iranian hawk), seem to be going in a direction that is decidedly not welcome in Tel Aviv [2]. And now this disengagement, which certainly does not help Israel [3]. On the sidelines - but perhaps not so much: this is happening in the aftermath of the Yemeni hypersonic missile that fell on Ben Gurion airport, easily evading defense systems, including the very expensive US THAAD, considered the top of US anti-missile technology (costing about a billion dollars). Which, obviously, means that it could easily hit one of the American aircraft carriers deployed in the Red Sea...
Notes
1 - White House, a journalist asks President Trump about his agreement with the Houthis, to which Trump replies "we have not made any agreement with the Houthis". The reporter then asks Trump where he heard that the Houthis will stop attacking US ships, to which Trump replies, "It doesn't matter where, I heard it somewhere, from a really, really good source, don't you agree JD?" JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio laugh awkwardly because Trump appears to have no idea what he's talking about. Curtain.
2 - Jewish media reports that Israeli leaders are "shocked" by Trump's announcement to suspend US operations against Yemen. They were not warned in advance and are confused as to why no plan to protect Israel from Yemen was announced. "Trump threw Israel under the bus in a way that is very unusual for him, not only that, but he didn't even consult with Israel."
3 - Oman officially announced a ceasefire between Yemen and the US. The US promised to immediately stop bombing Yemen and in return, US ships would not be targeted by the Houthis. Maritime shipping to Israel is not included in the deal; the air and sea blockade will remain until the aggression against Gaza ends.
P.S.
Trump says he has a "big announcement" regarding the Middle East, which will be made before he leaves for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar next Monday. He says the announcement is "the biggest one you can make" and that it is the biggest statement "in years" on a given subject.
